"Day by day it's more impossible to cope I feel like I'm the one that's doing dope Can't keep a steady hand because I'm nervous Every sunday morning I'm in service Praying for forgiveness And trying to find an exit out of the business"
I don't know if they're playing this joint down south, but since I've been on the east coast where go-go music is more popular this song stays on the radio! Just wanted to share this jam with all my friends down south in case you haven't heard it. Check it out, I love it!
You may remember when "Put Yo' Records On" interviewed this Artist on the Rise, Ari Lennox not too long ago. Well she's working on putting out her new project "Five Finger Discount" very soon. Check out this new video from the talented Ari Lennox featuring David James on guitar!
You WILL dance sucka!!! Oh how I wish I could have witnessed the mothership with my very own eyes...guess, I have to settle for the video footage...check it!
Music is important because it allows me to get away and even serves as some sort of therapy. Music comes in so many different forms; it has the ability to bring to surface so many feelings, moods, and memories whether good or bad.

How do you keep real music alive?
Keeping real music alive for me is simple by keeping music in rotation, and sharing it with others.
In an effort to "KEEP REAL MUSIC ALIVE", I occasionally like to highlight new, up and coming artist who don't get much exposure as they deserve. Nneka is an artist that I've been following for some time now and I had to share with you guys. Her style of music is very truthful, political and even raw. She kinda gives me that Marvin Gaye "Whats Goin On" album feel when I listen to her songs. She sings of such harsh topics about this world in such a light and beautiful voice. You can't listen to an artist like Nneka and not want to stand for a cause. Check out this mini-doc called "Who Is Nneka" to learn more about this talented artist on the rise!
One of my favorite songs of hers is, "Come With Me"...Check it out below!
What artist sampled this 70's diva classic, "I Get High (On Your Memory)"?
Hint: The artist was once a member of a group signed with Bad Boy Records...
It's no secret that Jamie Foxx is undeniably talented. His ability to fuse music and comedy together is one that is rare and unique. Between acting, singing and comedy this Terrell, Texas native is sure to have every aspect of the entertainment industry covered. Check out some of his musical and comical fusions below!
Jamie...one bit of advice....get back to the piano and leave the auto tune alone!!! You're so much better than that! #justsayin
"Think realistically, not egotistically
It's suicide if you even think of dissing me
'Cause if you try, I'm a make you wait
To learn the reason I'm the 808"
Soooooo, somebody went and re-made Jodeci's "Come and Talk To Me" classic....Omarion! LOL! I'm not even gonna ask who sang it better...smh! (Not that it sounds bad, its just....some things you don't touch!!)
"living up to the stage, I got jazz personality,G mentality, beats of soul train"
-Aaliyah (Back & Forth)
Growing up, Aaliyah was the girl I wanted to be like. She had a cool, laid back, jazzy like style and I often times would try to imitate her, lol. Simply put, she was my favorite singer as a young girl. Every time I hear her song on the radio these days I can't help but think...when is her next album coming out...but then I catch myself and just remain thankful for the music she was able to put out in her 22 years of living. It's crazy but without Aaliyah, I would probably be a totally different person...I mean who else would I have tried to be like, I wonder. Anyway, I just wanted to do a small tribute the beautiful Aaliyah "Baby Girl" Haughton. You will ALWAYS be missed.
Check out my top 5 favorite Aaliyah songs below, and also please share your Aaliyah favorites.
90's was the last decade of good music in my eyes. We had New Jack Swing, Babyface written jams and the flyest R&B groups! Some of the top music groups in that time period were ruled by the ladies. SWV, En Vogue and TLC ruled the charts, and created the best hits that even now we still love to jam. My question to you today is, of these top 3 girl groups, which was your favorite? Check out their hits below to jog your memory! Cast your vote on this weeks poll (located at the top right corner of the site).

Who else can go on tour year after year without having any NEW songs, lol! Nobody but Maze & Frankie Beverly! Are you going to check them out on tour this year?
Hip Hop artist, Nate Dogg passed away last night due to health issues. He was best known for his catchy hooks on the records of west coast rappers. Regulators with Warren G was his most popular hit. He will be missed in the hip hop world. He was 41.
I'm sorry, I absolutely love Chaka, but Whitney did it for me on this one! I wouldn't even know who Chaka Khan was if Whitney hadn't re-made this song. (side note: Isn't Whitney just GLOWING in this video? I love it! One of my favorite videos ever.)
"Proud, I'm proud of what I am
Poems I speak are Plug Two type
Please oh please let Plug Two be
himself, not what you read or write
Write is wrong when hype is written
on the Soul, De La that is..."
Stephen G. Brown: Sr. Pastor of Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church
Why is music important to you?
Music has been in the background of my life for as long as I can remember. From Earth, Wind & Fire to Stevie Wonder, there has never been a time when a certain song doesn't evoke a mood or memory. Spiritually speaking, music has allowed me to engage the Lord in a way that is intimate and life-changing! Music moves...

My iPod is always with me...I rarely listen to the radio, because I believe that we have lost our musical integrity and talent in recent years. Hip Hop is the greatest victim of this materialistic driven culture, and R & B simply lacks people who can sing without a studio! So, my iPod is always with me to keep me in sync with sounds that have substance! I am also introducing my son (Nicolas) to a sounds that are timeless: Jazz, Hip Hop, and Worship Music...
