Best of Teddy Riley: What's Your Favorite?

Teddy Riley, no doubt had a major impact on 90's music as the creator of the sound, "New Jack Swing". There are so many hit's that he has produced and made for tons of artist, particularly male groups including his very own, Guy and Blackstreet. Teddy continues to play a part in music even still today, and has worked with MEGA artist such as Michael Jackson himself, producing his entire "Dangerous" album and the fan favorite, "Remember The Time".  Check out some of my favorite Teddy Riley productions below and feel free to share some of you favorites! Show Time Favorites: Teena Marie (live)

One of my first of many concerts to attend where that of Teena Marie, Cameo and The Gap Band. I was a child and had no idea who any of these artist were, but my dad who promoted the show wanted me to witness the excitement. When Teena Marie came out, my thoughts were...."hmm...thats a white lady...", but little did I know how much she would show out!!! She was amazing, and surprisingly was my favorite part of the show. That's something that I will never forget. Although I never got a chance to see her live again before her passing, I'm thrilled to be able to say I have seen her perform live thanks to my daddy. Check out some of her live rehearsal clips below!

Rest In Peace Teena Marie!

Album Review: Mint Condition "7..."

Mint Condition is back on the scene with their seventh album, reasonably titled "7...".  As they put forth an effort to bring back their classic sound, I find the album to be layered with creative and melodic grooves of storytelling.

The album contains immediate favorites such as, "Walk On", "Caught My Eye" and the album opener, "Can't Get Away". They succeed in their quest to showcase the vocal talents of lead singer, Stokely as well as fulfill that hunger for live instrumentation by the band itself.
Though there is a hit and miss on some tracks such as, "I Want It" and "Bossalude" which both seem out of place in comparison to the entire album, they are completely forgiven when you hear the heartfelt "UnSung" and "Ease The Pain", an Al Green sound driven track. The album highlight however, features Kelly Price on the song, "Not My Daddy" which takes us all back to the Mint Condition we knew and loved in the 90's.

Overall, "7..." is an album that one can truly see growth in the band favorite. Definitely better than the last couple albums they've put out, but certainly they have managed to take their classic sound and sprinkle a little "2011" on top. Mint Condition fans should be proud.
